A Guide For Sincere Devotees
Among the Maa Das MahaVidya, The Divine Mother Is “Adored” As Maa Sri Lalitha TripuraSundari, the Beauty that Transcends the three worlds. This is a gentle guide for the sincere devotee who wishes to begin, with a still and reverent heart.
The Divine Mother
The Divine Mother Is “Revered” by many Divine Names. As Maa Lalita, The Divine Mother Is The One at play in all creation. As Maa Shodashi, The Divine Mother Is the ever‑youthful. As Maa Kameshwari and Maa Raja Rajeshwari, The Divine Mother Is The Sovereign of all. Among the Maa Das MahaVidya, the ten Wisdom Forms Of The Divine Mother, Maa Sri Lalitha TripuraSundari Is “Worshipped” as the Third, the Supreme Beauty in Whom the whole of creation rests.
The Name “Tripura Sundari” Tells of a Beauty that is not of the form alone. The Divine Mother Transcends the three worlds, the three states of waking, dream, and deep sleep, and the three cities of thought, word, and deed. To “Behold” The Divine Mother is to rest in that Beauty which quietly underlies all things.
The Divine Form
The Divine Mother Maa Sri Lalitha TripuraSundari Is Depicted Seated upon the Sacred Lotus, of a radiant complexion like the first light of dawn. The Divine Mother Is Depicted With Four Divine Arms, Holding the noose and the goad, the bow of sugarcane and the five flower‑arrows. The crescent moon adorns the Divine Crown, and The Divine Mother Is attended by Maa Lakshmi and Maa Saraswati, who serve at either side.
Each thing The Divine Mother Holds is a teaching for the sincere heart.
The mind, sweet as sugarcane, drawn back gently Toward The Divine Mother.
The five senses, softened into flowers, offered at the Divine Feet.
The gentle binding of attachment, by which the sincere seeker is drawn near.
The loving turn inward, by which the wandering heart is guided home.
The Sacred Origin
The Sacred account is told in the Lalitopakhyana, within the Brahmanda Purana, where lord hayagriva, a form of lord vishnu, first reveals the Sri Vidya to rishi agastya. There it is told how The Divine Mother Arose from the Chidagni Kunda, the altar of Sacred Fire, at the earnest “prayer” of the gods, and Blessed the world by ending the long darkness embodied in the asura bhandasura.
So The Divine Mother Maa Sri Lalitha TripuraSundari Is “Revered” As The One Who Dispels darkness and Restores the light, not once in a distant age, but again and again, wherever a sincere heart turns Toward The Divine Mother.
The Path Of Sri Vidya
To “Worship” Maa Sri Lalitha TripuraSundari Is to walk the path of Sri Vidya, the Sacred Knowledge in which the whole universe and one’s own being are seen as One. The Divine Mother Is “Revered” As Purna Vidya, the Complete Knowledge, in Whom the worldly and the Eternal are not divided.
From The Divine Mother, sincere devotees seek both Divine Abundance in this life and Divine Liberation beyond it. Yet the seeking of the fruit is never the heart of the “Worship”. The heart of the “Worship” is love, and the fruit is left, always, In The Hands Of The Divine Mother.
The Cosmic Body
The Cosmic Body Of The Divine Mother Is the Sri Chakra, drawn as nine interlocking triangles radiating from the central Bindu. The “Worship” unfolds through the Navavarana, the inward journey through nine Sacred enclosures, from the outer square to the Bindu at the centre, where The Divine Mother Is Seated As The Self within the Heart.
The outer “Worship” and the inward ascent are one. What the devotee offers with the hand at the outer enclosure, The Divine Mother Receives at the Bindu within.
The Sincere Devotee’s Path
The “Worship” Of The Divine Mother asks little in the way of things, and much in the way of the heart. It may be begun, simply and gently, in this way.
Come first only to “Behold”. Sit before The Divine Mother with a quiet heart, and let the eyes rest upon the Divine Form. The “Worship” begins not with doing, but with being Seen.
The Names Of The Divine Mother are sung openly in the Sri Lalitha Sahasranama, the thousand Divine Names, and in the Lalita Trishati, the three hundred. To “Recite” these Names, slowly and with reverence, is itself a complete “Worship”.
A flower, a lamp, a little water, offered by one’s own hand with a sincere heart, is Received by The Divine Mother as the whole world offered. On this Temple, the “Worship” may be offered by hand at any hour.
As the “Worship” deepens, let it turn inward, through the nine enclosures of the Sri Chakra, toward the stillness at the centre where The Divine Mother Rests within the Heart.
The Inner Preparation
A clean and quiet place. A steady time, kept faithfully, even if it is short. A flower or a lamp, offered simply. Above all, a sincere and settled mind, and the willingness to surrender the fruits of the “Worship” back To The Divine Mother.
What is offered with love, however small, The Divine Mother Receives as great. Steadiness matters more than length, and reverence more than perfection. Let the “Worship” be gentle, and let it be kept.
A Few Questions
Any sincere heart. The Divine Mother turns none away. No caste, no learning, and no perfection is asked, only love and steadiness.
Begin with Darshan, and with the Sacred Names sung openly on this Temple. The “Worship” grows of itself from there.
For the simple “Worship” of Darshan, the Sacred Names, and offering, a sincere heart is enough. For the deeper Sri Vidya path, a living Guru is Received in person, never from a page.
The devotee “Worships” not for a result, but for love. What The Divine Mother Blesses, The Divine Mother Blesses in Divine time. The fruit of the “Worship” is left, always, In The Hands Of The Divine Mother.
Walk Further
May The Divine Mother Maa Sri Lalitha TripuraSundari Bless all sincere devotees With a still and loving heart, and Draw them gently Toward the Beauty at the centre of all things.
